How Consuming Fish Oil Turns Fat-Storage Cells Into Fat-Burning Ones

One more amazing benefit of fish oil?

As obesity becomes a bigger and bigger problem, scientists are searching for new methods to help people lose body fat, and one of the newest and most successful methods is to consume fish oil.

While it may sound strange that consuming fish oil, which is actually fat, helps to lose body fat, scientists were able to understand how it works and realized it aids in weight loss.

This is due to the reason body fat isn’t only a storage space for excess calories that’s used when a person isn’t getting enough calories from food.

Too much of body fat is also associated with a higher risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, increased tissue inflammation, and many other problems.

So, it’s not a surprise people were and very much still are searching for new and easier methods to lose body fat. However, some of the methods are time-consuming, require lots of effort, or work efficiently only when combined with other methods.

This means some of the methods used to lose unnecessary pounds and improve your overall health are less effective.

On the other hand, increasing omega-3 fatty acid intake has been discovered to boost fat loss by increasing the metabolism and decreasing the appetite, as well as helping to stop the negative effects of obesity.

Many studies found omega-3 fatty acids decrease inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity, and both of these factors are important when a person needs to lose weight and boost muscle performance.

Also, a new study from Kyoto University proved fish oil transforms your body-fat storage cells into fat-burning ones.

This happens because not all body fat cells are responsible for storing fat. The first type of body fat cells is called

“white” and are needed to store fat as an energy source. The second type is called “brown” and works as a fat metabolizer, using fat to keep a stable body temperature.
To come to this conclusion, the Kyoto researchers compared the effects of a high-fat diet without fish oil in the first group, and together with fish oil in the second group.

The second group of mice who ate fatty products and fish oil gained 5-10% less body fat than the first group.

According to the researchers, this happened because fish oil increased the number of the third type of body fat cells called “beige,” which is responsible for metabolizing body fat instead of storing it.

Simply put, by consuming fish oil, you’re able to decrease the amount of body fat you gain and increase your body’s fat-burning efficiency at the same time.

While it’s recommended to take fish oil supplements, if you eat a lot of omega-3 rich products, it isn’t necessary for you. Some of the richest in omega-3 healthy products are:

-Mackerel: one cup contains 174% daily value (DV) of omega-3 fatty acids.
-Herring: three ounces contain 47% DV of omega-3 fatty acids.
-Walnuts: one fourth of a cup contains 66% DV of omega-3 fatty acids.
-Chia Seeds: one tablespoon contains 61% DV omega-3 fatty acids.
-Salmon: three ounces contain 42% DV of omega-3 fatty acids.
-Flaxseeds: one tablespoon contains 39% DV of omega-3 fatty acids.
-Tuna: one tablespoon contains 35% of DV omega-3 fatty acids.
-Hemp seeds: one tablespoon contains 25% DV of omega-3 fatty acids.
